Growing up in Southwest Louisiana, I was surrounded by the rich culture of the Cajuns. From a young age, I was immersed in the traditions, language, and stories that shaped my family’s identity. My maternal grandparents were Cajun French, and my great-grandparents didn’t even speak English until they were forced to when they entered school. These deep roots in Louisiana culture are the foundation for everything I create at ButterflyTigress, including the unique Cajun Christmas Collection.

I learned Cajun French in school, starting in elementary, through high school, and into my time at LSU. While I can’t speak the language fluently, I picked up a few words here and there. My Maw Maw and Paw Paw often used Cajun French when they didn’t want us grandchildren to understand what they were saying. I’ll never forget listening to my Maw Maw’s phone conversations with her sister or friends, trying to decipher bits and pieces. Those moments sparked my lifelong appreciation for Cajun culture, even though the language itself was often hidden from us growing up. This appreciation is reflected in my Cajun Christmas Collection, which carries the essence of these cherished traditions.
